Nerdbrewing has been putting quite a few beers recently. Known for their rich flavorful imperial stouts, they don't disppoint with two of their latest releases. First we have one of the two new Override stouts, Override Imperial Chocolate Milkshake Stout - Strawberry Edition is a blend of strawberry puree with cocoa nibs and vanilla. Next is Typeca…

This is HomeBrew RockStars Episode 70 part 2 - “Bring it on home-brewer” (Cue up the Led Zeppelin). In this episode we continue our conversation with Jon Lambert. Jon is the head brewer at Hairy Cow located in the town in Byr…

Our first episode of the new year and we've got something a little different from two very well respected breweries. We love Crooked Stave for their sours. That's pretty much all we've gotten in this part of the world. When we got our hands on an IPA from Crooked Stave, well of of course we had to have it on the show. Next is a beer from Stigberget…

“You can't share your magic with everyone. Your job is to live within your magic. And if other magical people find you, then let’s go and make a brew”. - Brian Tyree Henry Happy New Year and Welcome back to HomeBrew RockStars Episode 69 part 1 - “Brewin till the cows come home”. It’s been a bit since our last show but we are all fired up for the 20…

It's the last episode of the year on the last day of the year and it couldn't come sooner. We are ending the year on a high note with not the usual two beers, but three boozy fun To Ol beers. Martin and Stefan look back on the year that and look forward to starting 2021 with new beers and fun times. We hope you enjoyed the show this year and enjoy …

It's finally here. Day 24 of our 2020 Advent calendar. We end it with a great beer The Ale Apothecary The Beer Formally Know As La Tache. It's an American Wild Ale made with Cascade hops and aged in oak barrels. It's a great way to end the calendar and start the Christmas festivities. We hope you've enjoyed our calendar this year as much as we enjo…

It's almost over. The calendar is coming to and end but not before another exciting beer from Deya called Your Bad Luck Has Saved You. This is a collaboration with Crosby Hops and Loughran Brewing Stores. It's a west coast IPA made with Chinook, Idaho 7 and El Dorado hops. We learned a lot about ourselves this episode. Mainly we don't care for Idah…

Another new brewery from the UK? Yes please. Rivington Brewing is out of Lancashire, England and they are new to us. They have recently shown up in some web shops and we jumped on a chance to try them. Evil Dead II is a collaboration with Chain House Brewing. This DIPA is made with Galaxy, Nelson Sauvin and Idaho 7.…

When former President Donald Trump used the word "covfefe", no one knew what he meant. We still don't know. It was just another in a long line of random nonsense the carrot in chief spouted. Danish brewers People Like Us thought about it and imagined what would covfefe taste like. Turns out it's a coffee stout. Then they took that stout and aged it…

The White Hag Irish Brewing Company has been doing their research. They have recreated a ancient beer style called gruit. It uses Irish heather tops instead of hops and using wild yeasts for fermentation. They then aged it on French and Hungarian wine barrels for extra tartness. The result is Beann Gulban Irish Heather Sour Ale. And it's our advent…

Advent 2020 Day 19 brings us lots of holiday joy with De Moersleutel Wanna Taste My Gingerbread Man? As we head into the final days of the calendar having an imperial stout with ginger, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg gives us the warm fuzzy feelings of yuletide cheer. Maybe we should have had pepparkaka and blue cheese to go with it to complete the e…

You might remember earlier this year we reviewed the Tubervol 2018 to somewhat positive reviews. After all this is an unholy marriage of lambic with Belgian blonde ale. How does the sweetness of the Belgian blonde mesh with the sour fruitiness of the lambic? Just like the 2018, Tuverbol 2019 enjoyment will vary depending on the drinker. It's trip a…

In the middle of the month and we are feeling the dark winter nights. Fortunately we have the Advent 2020 calendar and it's Day 17. That means we have a new beer to brighten our spirits with Brouwerij de Molen Doom & Gloom. This is a nice imperial stout with a slight barrel aging on it. Coming in at 10.6% ABV, it's just what we need to warm our col…

We haven't heard of Bruery Terreux's The Orchard Project. There are three beers from this line and we get to try Nectarines. Bruery Terreux has been known to make incredibly sour beers. This one is just on the boarder. This sour wit ale is brewed with spices and aged in oak barrels with raspberries and nectarines. It's a pucker fest but in a good w…

We are taking a leap on Advent Day 15 with Wild Leap's Alpha Abstraction Vol 13. We've tried previous versions of this beer on the show and have quite enjoyed it. Also, we are suckers for a series and we'll keep trying them as long as they are good. Version 13 is an 8% ABV with Sabro hops. Sabro isn't one of our favorite hops and this one lacks the…

Advent 2020 Day 14 brings us The Bruery American Anthem. It's an imperial brown ale aged on bourbon barrels with peach, apricot, cinnamon and vanilla beans. It's a boozy peach pie in a glass. This 14.2% ABV beer will keep you warm on this long cold winter nights. It will make you long for warmer days and better times. But when you're sharing beers …

We've always enjoyed To Ol. One of the bright notes of this year has been the amazing beers coming out of To Ol City. They have really stepped up their game. Day 13 give us one of their latest offerings Artistic Bouncing, a double IPA with Galaxy and Ella hops. This is a great beer and celebrates what they've been doing recently. At 8% ABV it doesn…

Advent 2020 Day 12 is only our second hard seltzer on the show. Hard seltzers get mixed reviews. The Evil Water line from Evil Twin NYC has generally been well received. Tamarind Lime is what you would call a challenging flavor combination. It's something you'll either enjoy or you'll hate. There is no middle ground here. Meant to be light and effe…

Advent 2020 Day 11 is a visit from the monk, the Northern Monk. This Northern UK brewery rarely disappoints and this one doesn't. OFS is part of an experimental beer series. Each number is a different beer. OFS012 is an American IPA using Incognito hops. These beers we only available at the brewery before COVID hit and now you can find them online …

Advent 2020 Day 10 is another treat from the Kihoskh monthly subscription box. Adroit Theory has been making waves in the EU over the past year. Their Evangelion line of triple IPAs has been a welcome coping mechanism this year. Zeruel is the 14th iteration of this beer and it's awesome. If you haven't tried any beers from Adroit Theory, make sure …

Advent 2020 Day 9 gives us a Swedish beer. Stockholm Brewing Co has been featured on the show a few times over the year thanks to Martin. He bring the King of Grapes to the 2020 Advent calendar. This is a blend of 1-year old Foeder sour ale blended with 20% fermented Grenache juice. It's a kingly beer for kingly times. You won't be royalty after dr…

O'Clock Brewing has released about 20 variants for Baden Power. Martin brought us the Baden Power Baltic Porter Bourbon edition. Another French release and a welcome edition to the calendar. This is a new brewery for both of us. That means double the excitement and anticipation. We feel like we've found a hidden treasure. This version of Baden Powe…

We decided to take a break on Day 7, an Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break! This classic beer is a gift from Stefan. Neither of the guys had had an Imperial Biscotti Break in a few years, so it was a welcome break. It's everything we remembered it being. It's nice to know that in a world of pastry stouts there are still some classics that remain as …

Advent 2020 Day 6 is a Stefan beer. And what a surprise it is. Evil Twin NYC What Even Is Pink Pineapple Anyway is a new one from the mega brewery. They are cranking out crazy impressive beers this year. They have been on the highlights of the beer year. We've had many Evil Twin NYC beers featured on the show and we expect to see many more in 2021.…

Advent 2020 keeps rolling along and with day 5 we get to try another beer that Stefan brought. Kihoskh's monthly beer subscription has been excellent and he got Great Notion Passion Fruit Mochi in a recent box. There have been a slew of Great Notion beers available in Europe over the past few months so to get one in a monthly subscription box makes…

Day 4 brings us De Moersleutel from Martin. Octane Overlord BA Invergordon and DRU is another fun release in the Octane Overlord series. This 11% ABV beer is boozy, sweet and amazing. Aged in Invergordon scotch whiskey barrels is has a sweet, roasty, chocolate notes. We also have no idea what a DRU is.…

Advent Day 3 gives us a variation on a classic. Stefan brought a bourbon barrel aged Arrogant Bastard from Stone Brewing. An American Strong Ale, Arrogant Bastard is a sweet, hoppy, slightly boozy 8.1% treat. We've had many versions of Arrogant Bastard in the past and this one was new for both Stefan and Martin. It is a double treat!…

Day 2 is another gift from Martin. This time we are treated to a Russian imperial stout from Popihn and ZooBrew called The Stick of Truth. Aged on bourbon barrels for 12 months, this dark boozy treat and gets us in the holiday spirit. At 10% ABV it puts color in our cheeks and a song in our heart.By Stefan Halley & Martin Lindstrom

It's day 1 of our 2020 Advent Calendar. Like last year, we created our own calendar full of fun and surprises. We start the calendar with a beer of Martin's choosing. It's from a French brewery neither of us have tried before called The Piggy Brewing. Lupulin Diktat 2020 is an 8% AVB DIPA made with Idaho7 and Citra hops. This is a great beer and a …

We haven't had Industrial Arts beers on the show before. When this one showed up in the monthly Kihoskh subscription box, we had to break it out. We definitely get what the hype is about. We're on the lookout for more from them in the future. It's been about a year since we last tried Bierol. This Austrian brewery has released a bourbon barrel aged…

Another head to head contest. Two crazy collaboration stouts. The first is Amager Bryghus and Angry Chair Brewing's Black Rainbows. It's a 12% pastry stout with strawberry, vanilla and cocoa beans. We compare that with Hoof Hearted Brewing and Evil Twin Brewing's Even More Tennis Elbow. This is a double mashed imperial stout with hazelnut, coconut …

Martin and Stefan got out hands on a can of the 3 Sons DDH Dopealicious. It's a weird one. Double dry hopped with Citra and Mosiac it tastes a lot like a belgium IPA. This is the DDH Dopealicious and not the Double Dopealicious that Martin calls it. After that we check in with one of our IPA brewers, Wylams. Cycles of Amplification tropical with Ci…

After trying the first four of the barcode series from De Moersleutel, we had to try the next two in the series. 8719992492411 Mint Green is a double vanilla bourbon barrel aged imperial stout at 12% abv. That's followed by 8719992492428 Red is an imperial milk stout with peated coconut barrel aged and milk lactose. This series continues to be impr…

I don't know if we've ever reviewed Mast Landing Brewing Co on the show before but after trying Shake Up Your Bones, we need to try more. This DIPA is brewed with Nelson, Citra and Simcoe hops. It's a rich, fruity treat. Shenk is a brewery out of Bratislava, Slovakia. They've rebrewed their American Wild Ale simply called S. This is the first time …

We can't travel much right now but that doesn't mean we can't feel like we're visiting a French bistro. On a nice sunny day we pop into Le Bistro Du Gourmet, a French deli/restaurant/grocery store. They have a small but unique collection of beers from one brewery in Matzenheim, Grand-Est France. Matten is a microbrewery bear Alsace. We tried Imperi…

(NSFW) In this weeks Road Sodas episode, The Hoppy Craftsmen go over Phoenix New Time's Best of 2020. A few of the places we love made the list, and was pumped to see them get some recognition. Next, Instagram keeps promoting some strange investment opportunity, the guys dig deeper into what that is. For once Ed and Chris are fan boy'n out to some …

It's October and while Octoberfest happened on a much smaller level, we still celebrated in our hearts and minds. While shouting "PROST" and dancing in our lederhosen, we sample to fine German beers. First is the Brauhaus Riegele Speziator Dunkel, a dark doppelbock that was first brewed by monks over 300 years ago. Schlenkerla Fastenbier is a nice …

Have mentioned how much we love To Ol and Evil Twin NY before? It's pretty obvious since we keep reviewing their beers on show. Now that To Ol has their own brewery in Denmark called To Ol City, they have been cranking out one amazing beer after another. Extreme Measures is no different. They are really killing it. While Evil Twin NY has released a…

We bring year four of the podcast to a close. We've keep cranking out an episode a week for the past four year. For a special episode Martin brought out special beers, four Brekeriet bottles from a few years ago…

Summers over but we got to visit one more pop-up bar before it closed. Mikkeller Moriskans Trädgård is a Mikkeller pop-up bar that is back for it's second year. It's a great space with lots of beers and food to choose from. We tried out Mikkeller SD's Fruit Face with cranberry, pear and ginger. We follow that up with Mikkeller SD's Shadows of Tomor…

Finally the Game of Beers returns. It's been a long time since we were able to have a game. We hope you've missed it as much as we have. It's a battle to the with on…

We risk Covid to try a new summer pop-up place. Orangeriet opened this summer and hosting lots of local brewers. It's a great way to get an overview of what's happening in the local beer scene.
