A new series in which each week I read a chapter from a novel I wrote as a teenager 15 years ago, and afterwards talk about it to see how little I have changed since then. This is a story of an alien invasion taking place on Earth directly after the First World War, a mix of Blackadder Goes Forth, Independence Day, and Un Chien Andalou. Yes, those natural bedfellows. And as you can imagine, this was not a novel that was published. Here, I present the awfulness of this novel for your amusemen ...

Writing was a healing process for me, and I could help others by sharing my story. Podcasting has given me a platform to use my voice for good and hopefully inspire others t ...

The Cultivate Podcast is all about deepening our understanding of Scripture for a deeper love of Jesus. That’s my simple hope. Yet we live in a crazy busy culture that makes it hard to prioritize Bible study. Not to mention, for many of us the Bible can be plain confusing or intimidating. That’s why I’m so excited about this podcast! We’ll get to study God’s Word together. Absolutely nothing has gone after every crevice of my heart like Scripture. It’s the most relevant and alive book on ear ...

Golf 360 came about from a theory I wrote a decade ago called The Golf Paradigm. It is something I came up with after spending over 30 years in golf and meeting a lot of exceptional people. Some of them were within the industry while others were outside of it but they all had phenomenal information that helped me improve. Whether it was a world-renowned coach, genius club fitter or engineer, ground breaking health professional or therapist, fantastic mental coach or psychologist or someone t ...

Is your Christian life tiresome, stale, and sometimes even lifeless? Have you lost the passionate desire you once had to walk the path of biblical faithfulness? “Walking” is often connected to an urgency in the Christian life—an urgency to follow Christ and pursuing holiness. Paul wrote, “I urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called” (Eph. 4:4). To walk worthy isn’t a suggestion but a command to believers for faithfulness in being and living as the body ...

Finally, after a decade-long journey, in December of Michael's senior year of high school, when my fingers started pounding the keyboard, something magical happened. They could not stop. I wrote a chapter the first week, two chapters the second week, then three and then four. The stories, lessons and messages poured out of my memory and onto the pages of this memoire. The final thirty-five chapters were written in thirty-five days. I always said to my son that we are defined not by our behav ...

Chamber Music is a collection of poems by James Joyce, first published in May of 1907. The collection originally comprised thirty-four love poems, but two further poems were added before publication ("All day I hear the noise of waters" and "I hear an army charging upon the land"). Although the poems did not sell well, they received some critical acclaim. Ezra Pound admired the "delicate temperament" of these early poems, while Yeats described "I hear an army charging upon the land" as "a te ...

The audio Bible stories in this podcast were written and produced by me, Gavin Owen. I spent seven years as a full-time Christian schools worker, regularly visiting over 30 primary schools across my home county of Wiltshire in England. I took over 1,400 school assemblies, telling the Bible stories that I wrote to over 10,000 children. At the end of this time, I decided to share my stories with the wider world, hoping that they would be of use to other Christians teaching and sharing the Bibl ...

Microtonal Music is music using more than 12 tones per octave. I compose music using Csound and a preprocessor I wrote in Turbo Pascal. I post small updates as the compositions are being created, and a few final versions once I'm done. I strive towards music that could be played if we had the instruments capable of playing the notes. Think of it as "fake but accurate".

These podcasts are the essence of a couple dozen emails I wrote to my daughter and two daughters-in-law at their request about the art of being a wife. After our other three daughters married I pulled out, refreshed them and sent them to the new brides. Other young women were interested in hearing what I’d learned in marriage so I refined the originals and added a few more and the result was a good summation of my life lessons. It became a book called Letters to My Daughters. In these podcas ...

Emma, by Jane Austen, is a novel about youthful hubris and the perils of misconstrued romance. As in her other novels, Austen explores the concerns and difficulties of genteel women living in Georgian-Regency England; she also creates a lively comedy of manners. Before she began the novel, Austen wrote, "I am going to take a heroine whom no one but myself will much like." In the very first sentence she introduces the title character as "Emma Woodhouse, handsome, clever, and rich." Emma, howev ...

The Bible is the sufficient authority for the whole of the Christian life. I’m reading XBook, Chapter 11. It’s a book that I wrote all by myself. And a sci-fi one. And a FIrst World War one. And a surreal one. It has aliens invading the Earth in 1918 with our hero unable to distinguish the real world from the one he’s constructed in his head. It was written when I was a lot younger than I am now. And each episode, I read …
