Manage episode 264807016 series 2667104
WHEN Mark Docherty joined Annan in January he probably didn’t know how lucky he was.
Mark is one of the fortunate ones thanks to the 18-month deal he penned at Galabank.
But he tells Gareth and Paul how he was already counting his blessings after a trip to Gamblers' Anonymous eight years ago turned his life around.
In a frank interview Mark reveals how he was addicted to betting since his late teens and would tell his parents he was playing a reserve game for St Mirren when he was actually in the bookies.
Hear why he thinks it affected his playing career - and just how he got back on the straight and narrow. If you're in the same boat then you can do the same by going to https://gascotland.org/ for more information.
There are also some great stories including whose boots he'd clean when he was coming through the ranks at the Buddies - and why he was rated so badly with the polish.
In the week Andy Millen returned to first team football as assistant manager at Kilmarnock, Mark tells us why his mate has been away from football's frontline for so long and the night he was on the wrong end of his desire to win.
Mark lifts the lid on the Alloa Legends' group chat he's still a part of - and who else is in there. Plus he reflects on his spells at the likes of Stirling, Brechin, Stranraer, Dumbarton, East Fife and Forfar.
While lockdown has been quiet for some, Mark tells us what it was like becoming a dad for the second time in the midst of a global pandemic - and life as a key worker at St Philips residential school in Airdrie.
