Auckland venue operators want to know why they aren't able to operate under level 2 - but malls are allowed to be open.
Sky Tower, Eden Park and Spark Arena are amongst the venues lighting up red tonight in recognition of how Covid-19 has harmed the events sector.
ASB Showgrounds is taking part, and chief executive Mark Frankham says the Auckland events centre is on breaking point.
He says that the sector has better contact tracing and social distancing capabilities than malls do, yet they still have gathering restrictions.
"You can walk into any shopping mall, any time, and do anything you want. You can't do that at an exhibition in a closed environment that we've got."
Frankham says they want to talk to the Government about operating under level two.
He says the Showgrounds hasn't worked since March, losing $4 million in that time.
"We're on the last thread. If we don't go live next week, that's it for us. We can't wait another month to go live.
"The shows that we've got for October and November, are just going to keep us through to December."
