Jylani Ma'at Brown is a well-being professional who centers the lives of Black, Brown and Indigenous communities. By integrating education, current and ancestral culture, history and innate meditation/mindfulness behaviors, she creates culturally relevant strategies for healthy, joy-centered lives. In this episode we discuss:

  • A spirituality deeply rooted in physicality, in the hear-and-now reality of our existence
  • Growing up in NYC, moving to the South—where she simultaneously learned to slow down and had to grapple with racism in new ways—and eventually LA, and how each of those places influenced her spiritual journey
  • Plus, she drops some serious wisdom on mindfulness (which she calls “open awareness”) within familuse and communities, especially communities of color
