We need to balance the exclusive feeling that this is mine. God is mine with the higher understanding that God is everyone’s and inclusiveness and exclusiveness together creates a beautiful, loving community of human beings. Otherwise you know if we are just so inclusive that we lose appreciation for our own rue identity. And the specialness of what we have been giving and who we are? And if we go too exclusive, then the medicine makes us more sick than we originally were. Because the whole purpose of dharma or spirituality is to free us of the false ego so that our real ego as eternal compassion lovers of God and all beings is awakened. And unfortunately, today people in the name of religion become very judgemental and very arrogant toward what’s different. And that is contradictory to the very purpose of the spiritual path itself that we are following. The Bible says blessed are the meek they should never be hurt, rather we have blessed are the poor in spirit, they will attain the Kingdome of God. So, Lord Chaitanya taught tṛṇād api su-nīcena taror iva sahiṣṇunā amāninā māna-dena kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ: what is the aspiration, the virtue and the character of one who loves God? Who can constantly chant God’s names? One who is more humble than a blade of grass, more tolerant than a tree, who is eager to offer all respect to others and does not depend on expect or demand respect for oneself. That’s at the heart of all spiritual paths. And when we understand that, then the exclusive sweetness and beauty that where we receiving in our own spiritual community and through our own practice, we value it so dearly but at the same time we are inclusive because we know and we appreciate that other people are finding it in their way.
