News Briefing: Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung was elected as the ruling Democratic Party’s (DP) candidate for next year's presidential election, set to be held on March 9. Lee secured the presidential ticket on Sunday after winning 50.29 percent of votes from regional primaries held from September 4 until Sunday and three rounds of votes among members of the public. In-Depth News Analysis: Last week the White House revealed that US President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping are planning to hold a virtual bilateral meeting before the end of the year. Relations between Washington and Beijing have been locked in a stalemate in recent years, but they have exacerbated recently by Beijing’s aggressive posture toward Taiwan.
