'Cocaine Cowboys': A true-crime series so great, it's addictive. Brilliant Netflix documentary tells the wildly entertaining saga of Miami drug kingpins Sal Magluta and Willy Falcon.
The Kings of Miami ... Two childhood friends go from high school dropouts to the most powerful drug kingpins in Miami.
It’s hard to overstate Magluta and Falcon’s influence on American history. At their arrest, they were transporting 75 tons of cocaine, an amount of drugs that was estimated to cost $2 billion. During a period of time, if anyone in the U.S. was snorting coke, chances are Magluta and Falcon were involved. Then there are the less measurable effects of their reign. When Magluta and Falcon first entered the scene, California and New York were the country’s hotspots for partying and cocaine. South Florida didn’t even register on that particular map. But after the gobs of money Magluta and Falcon started spending and the network of equally party-loving friends and acquaintances they started hiring, that all changed. Miami started to adapt to the party-loving city it is today largely thanks to all that money.
