It’s OK to say we’ve had enough — in fact, scripture encourages us to cry out to God when we just can’t seem to endure any longer. We continue our Psalms of Ascent series with Psalm 123, which tells us to turn to the Lord for mercy in the midst of contempt. As believers, we can rejoice in knowing that our worth is not determined by the pointing fingers of the proud — our ultimate value rests in the supplying, protecting, correcting, and rewarding hands of God.

Psalm 123

I lift up my eyes to you, to you whose throne is in heaven. As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he shows us his mercy. Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured much contempt. We have endured much ridicule from the proud, much contempt from the arrogant.
