In this episode John David Mann talks about his beginnings as a writer, his challenges and what he did to get to where he is today.

His first novel, STEEL FEAR, coauthored with former Navy SEAL Brandon Webb, was released this July and was recently named by Publishers Weekly as one of “Best Books of 2021”. Author Lee Child of “Jack Reacher” fame called it “an instant classic, maybe an instant legend.”

To date, Mann has coauthored 30 books, including 4 New York Times bestsellers and 5 national bestsellers, and won numerous awards. His bestselling classic THE GO-GIVER (with Bob Burg) has sold over 1 million copies and won the Living Now Book Award’s Evergreen Medal for its “contribution to positive global change.”

Key Takeaways:

1. The challenge to writers is what I'm saying is, are the same challenges that you face if you're starting a business, if you're starting anything. (2:49)

2. For over a decade, I was sort of professionally an editor of other people's stuff, which by the way, I think it was an excellent way to get training as a writer editing other people's stuff, because you're not attached to it emotionally. (4:50)

3. if you want to write, you got to read and read appreciatively. It's like eating a meal appreciatively. Don't just eat to fit stuff your face and move on to the next thing, taste what you're eating (7:07)
